MLB Betting Odds: Yankees Continue Above The Law Attitude
The New York Yankees do business on and off the field in a different fashion than other teams, and because of the power that they possess, often they make their own rules. That is what happened on Wednesday night in the Bronx.
Back in the 2000 World Series, Roger Clemens threw a broken bat, which could have been conceived as a deadly weapon, at New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza. For any other player on any other team, that likely would have ended his playoff experience for the year and possibly also could have created criminal charges.
It was not any other player on any other team, however, it was Clemens and it was the Yankees. That meant that a slap on the wrist was all the steroid-induced Clemens outburst would receive from Major League Baseball.
On Wednesday night, catcher Jorge Posada took exception to being thrown at by Toronto reliever Jeese Carlson, even after the Yankees had hit a Blue Jay player. Posada scored on a base hit a couple of batters later and in true Yankees fashion, Posada felt the need to elbow Carlson.
What ensued was Carlson going after Posada, and a brawl broke out. Now it is up to Major league Baseball again to discipline the players involved. The Yankees are in first place comfortably and Toronto is out of the playoff race.
Whatever outcome the MLB police hand down, it will most likely be not enough to change the behavior of Yankees players. They play with a sense of entitlement, even when it infringes on the rights of players on other teams.
