MLB Betting Preview: Interleague Play Dominates This Weekend
One of the main ideas that Commissioner Bud Selig has brought to the game of baseball during his tenure is interleague play. The second round of interleague play began last weekend, but a majority of the natural rivalry series' begin tonight.
The New York Mets and the New York Yankees is perhaps the best known natural rivalry, and the series shifts to the Bronx tonight. The Mets took two of three the first time these teams met last month, and the Mets come in on a roll.
In the past couple of weeks, the Mets have gone from last place, to one half game behind the division leading Atlanta Braves. The Mets have received surprisingly strong starting pitching, and their offense has been much better of late with Jose Reyes heating up at the top of the lineup.
Outside of New York, other games of interest are taking place around the country. in Boston, Manny Ramirez returns to Fenway Park when the Boston Red Sox host the Los Angeles Dodgers. The dodgers and Red Sox have both been streaking, and are near or at the top of their respected divisions.
In South Florida, the Marlins and the Tampa Rays renew acquaintances. The Marlins are playing possibly their worst baseball of the year in recent weeks, and the Rays for the first time are showing vulnerability at the top of the American League East.
In the Lone Star state, Texas and Houston square off in a battle of teams going in opposite directions. The Rangers are in first place in the American League West, while the Astros are so far out of first place that they may soon consider trading stars such as Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman.
