MLB Betting Preview: Interleague Play Takes Center Stage
The first quarter of the baseball season has come and gone, and that means that interleague play has arrived. This weekend, the first round of interleague play will commence and it is highlighted by the two teams from New York squaring off in Queens.
The Yankees have played as expected through the first portion of the schedule, while the Mets have had a roller coaster ride. The Mets started slowly, then won nine out of ten, only to return to mediocrity shortly after their winning streak.
The series will be played at Citi Field, the home of the Mets. That does not guarantee success, however, as the Yankees swept the Metropolitans last season in the first year of the new ballpark.
in other interleague action, the surprising Washington Nationals play their Maryland rivals, the Baltimore Orioles. Cincinnati and Cleveland face off in a battle of Ohio. The Reds have surprised everyone this year and are currently fighting for first place with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Out West, two California teams will play by the bay. San Francisco and Oakland once met in the World Series, but tonight both teams will look to get back on track after sluggish starts. In the Midwest, Minnesota will square off with Milwaukee.
In past years, the American League has dominated interleague play, but this year may be different. The addition of Roy Halladay and the emergence of Ubaldo Jimenez, along with the growth of Tim Lincecum, have some analysts believing the National league is stronger in 2010.
