MLB Betting Preview: Mets Looking To Pass .500 Mark Tonight
Few teams have come into this season with so many question marks as the New York Mets. After collapsing two years in a row down the stretch, New York had a season to forget last season. This year, they came to camp with increased pressure to get off to a fast start.
The fast start did not happen and already the Mets were facing boos from their home crown-until recently. New York has won three straight games and is looking for their first series sweep tonight when they face the Atlanta Braves.
The Mets have hit their stride with dominant starting pitching. Johan Santana is back to dominating hitters, which has surprised nobody. What is surprising, however, is the rest of the starting rotation that has pitched as well as any in the National League.
Mike Pelfrey, tonight's starter, has an ERA of under one. Oliver Perez has looked much better in his last two starts, and Jonathan Niese has been a pleasant surprise. John Maine has been the sloe sore spot in the rotation.
The offense has yet to find its way, but has shown signs of life lately. Jason Bay, who started the season in a miserable slump, has started driving the ball in the past couple of games, and the return of Jose Reyes has sparked the offense.
The Mets still have an uphill battle if they are going to catch Philadelphia for the division lead. Roy Halladay has been unhittable so far, and the Phillies have started quickly. Up next for the Mets after Sunday nights game with Atlanta will be a series with the Dodgers starting Monday in New York.
