The Philadelphia Phillies are on top of the National League East once again. While that comes as no surprise to anyone who has watched baseball the past three years, the fact that Philly is leading the division this year is impressive.

Philadelphia has been without starting shortstop Jimmy Rollins for most of the season. Rollins is currently rehabbing from an injury, and is expected back this week. The Phillies also recently had Joe Blanton pitch after his stint on the DL.

Tonight, the Phillies try to complete a weekend sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers were supposed to have Doug Davis on the mound tonight, but he was scratched from the start because of inflammation around his heart. Davis will be placed on the disabled list until he has healed.

The Phillies will have Cole Hamels on the mound. Hamels is a former MVP in the playoffs, but has struggled since carrying the team to a World Championship two seasons ago. The innings he pitched during the title run have been attributed to his troubles last year and early this season.

On the offensive side, Philadelphia can still hit with the best teams in the league. Chase Utley and Ryan Howard anchor a lineup that is among the best in baseball. The one area where Philadelphia has not settled is closing ballgames. Brad Lidge came back briefly last week, but was back on the DL this weekend.

Milwaukee had been without its top slugger, Ryan Braun for much of this past week after Braun was hit in the elbow by Tommy Hanson of the Atlanta Braves. Braun returned to the lineup this weekend, and is hoping to help the brewers avoid the sweep.
