MLB Betting Preview: Red Sox Falling Fast In AL East

The Boston Red Sox are a team that felt like they had as good a chance as any to reach the World Series. After the first two weeks of the season, Boston is looking like anything but a title contender.

In the off season, Boston let free agent Jason Bay walk. They understood that would have devastating affects on their lineup, but their focus was on the pitching staff. That is why they went out and signed former Angels ace John Lackey.

On Monday, Lackey was dismantled by the Tampa Bay Rays, and, in the process, Boston was swept in the four game series at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are now looking up at the Rays, Yankees, and even the Blue Jays in the American League East.

The timely hitting has disappeared during the stretch in which the Red Sox have gone 3-7. One of their aces, John Lester, has a record of 0-2, and Lackey was roughed up Monday. Josh Beckett has been unimpressive as well.

Without the pitching, Boston will have a hard time staying with the Rays and Yankees. Tampa was in the World series two years ago, and New York is the defending World Series champions. The two teams the Red Sox are now chasing both are equipped to be around for the long haul this season.

It is just over two weeks into the season, but Boston already finds themselves six games out of first place. Slow starts can be overcome in the long baseball season, but the Red Sox will have to turn things around soon if they plan to be playing meaningful games in September.
