MLB Betting Preview: White Sox Expecting Big Year Out Of Peavy
The American League Central is one of those divisions this season in which the balance of power may have shifted before the teams even begin the year. The season ending injury to Joe Nathan opened the door for other teams to pass Minnesota.
One of the teams that will try to derail the Twins is the Chicago White Sox. The Sox retooled this off season, but may have made their biggest move before last season was even complete.
Chicago traded for Jake Peavy last year, even though the ace right-hander was hurt at the time. After his return late in the season, Peavy again looked like the pitcher that had dominated in years past.
The White Sox are hoping that Peavy can anchor a deep rotation and lead them back to the playoffs. The addition of Juan Pierre is expected to transform the White Sox from a power hitting team to a squad built around speed.
Detroit remains in the mix for a division title as well. The Tigers traded Curtis Granderson to the Yankees, and then signed Johnny Damon to replace Granderson. They also still have young studs Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera.
Cleveland and Kansas City are not as talented on paper as the top three teams, but they do have some young talent. The Indians are hoping that Fausto Carmona battles back after a disappointing season, and the Royals still have Zach Greinke, the Cy Young award winner from last year.
