MLB Future Betting Odds Starting To Even Out For Marlins, Royals

It must have been a fun month of April for gamblers who decided to take a chance on long shot division winners in Major League Baseball. That excitement has now given way to reality almost halfway through May.

The Florida Marlins and the Kansas City Royals were the underdog darlings of the media in the season's first month. The Marlins started the season as the hottest team in baseball and analysts were insisting that the Marlins were for real. Now, a month later, Florida is having a hard time finding ways to win games.

The same can be said for the Royals, who were in first place for much of April. They, too, have cooled off of late, although they do have the big leagues best pitcher so far this year in Zach Greinke.

While the Marlins and Royals are going one way, the Mets and Red Sox are going the other. Boston and New York have both had long winning streaks lately, and it has helped both teams rise to the top of their division. The Mets are riding a seven game winning streak and have taken over sole possession of first place in the National League East.

As for the rest of the divisions, they too are beginning to fall into place the way the sportsbooks predicted. The Dodgers are on top of the National League West and Chicago is gaining on the division leading Cardinals in the Central.

Over in the American League, Detroit, behind a resurgence from Justin Verlander, is atop the Central, and the Anaheim Angels who had an awful start, is only a half game back in the West. Boston still trails surprising Toronto by 1.5 games in the East.
