MLB Hearing on Gambling Briefs Players on Risk
Major League Baseball (MLB) security officials are singing a new tune about the danger of gambling with low profile sports bookies.
According to our sources, Major League Baseball security informed players to be cautious of internet gambling and to keep away from situations where bookies are involved.
"The point of the training class was to make it clear that this is not something that's good", said one player who requested his name be left out of the story.
According to our sources, at least two illegal bookmakers took steps to get Paul Lo Duca to pay gambling debts, including making a call to his former team, the Florida Marlins.
Paul Lo Duca has insisted that his gambling bets only included horse racing.
The New York Mets baseball franchise issued a statement saying they have "talked to Major League Baseball and they have expressed no concern of any violation of any Major League Baseball rule regarding Paul Lo Duca".
Major League Baseball rules disallow players from betting on baseball and include a year suspension for wagering on sports games and a lifetime ban if someone bets on their own team.
