MLB Playoff Betting Odds: Yankees And Cardinals Favored

The New York Yankees spared no expense last off season when they acquired the two biggest names on the free agent market. The moves so far have paid off and as the playoffs begin, New York is the betting favorite to win the World Series.

First, the Yankees went out and signed former Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia to anchor their pitching staff. Then, realizing the offense needed a jolt, the Yankees signed Mark Teixeira to hit in the three hole.

The two moves have been just what the doctor ordered and the Yankees had the best regular season of any major league club. As the playoffs began this week, odds makers have installed New York as a 3-2 favorite.

The Yankees have not won the World Series since beating the crosstown Mets in 200. Since then, the playoffs have been a rocky road filled with disappointment, but the team seems intent on ending that bad run this year.

In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals have not even started the playoffs with home field advantage, but that has not stopped sports books from making them the favorite to win the pennant. St. Louis has odds of 9-2, closely followed by Philadelphia at 11-2.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that finished with the best record in the league, is a 6-1 choice, and the Colorado Rockies are the NL long shot at 14-1. Minnesota has the longest odds of all teams at 25-1. Boston is 9-2 and the Angels are 11-2.
