Nadal Once Again Routs Federer At The French Open
Raphael Nadal is as dominant on clay as any tennis player has ever been on any surface. On Sunday, he continued his dominance of the surface by routing rival Roger Federer in straight sets.
Nadal was so overwhelming in the French Open final on Sunday, that Federer was ecstatic after winning one of the points in the match. The ecstasy would be one of only a handful for Federer who lost 6-1, 6-3, 6-0.
"He dominated from the first point until the end. It's the strongest Rafa that I've ever seen. He was more dominant than the previous years," said Federer. That is some accomplishment considering that Nadal has never lost a match at the French Open, and has won four straight Open titles.
"I am humble, but the numbers are the numbers," said Nadal. The likes of this kind of dominance has not been seen in a tennis major since Bjorn Borg dominated this same tournament. Bjorg won six French Open titles in his career, a mark that could be broken by Nadal.
Federer, while overwhe4lmed by Nadal's play for most of the day, was not ready to throw in the towel for good. "I mean, after a loss like this, you don't want to play Rafa again tomorrow. Let's see what happens again next year," said Federer.
Federer has been dominant throughout his career himself. He has won twelve grand slam titles and has been ranked number one in the world for 227 weeks in a row, a record. That makes what Nadal did on Sunday all the more impressing.
