NASCAR Betting Begins With Daytona 500 Next Week

When it comes to sports gambling in the US there is no doubt that the NFL and college football is king. That does not mean, however, that other sports go unnoticed by gamblers. NASCAR is one of the sports that has become popular among bettors in the past few years.

The betting season for NASCAR fans begins again next week with the season opening Daytona 500. Unlike many sports where their signature event comes at the end of the season, NASCAR comes right out of the gates with theirs.

Much of the buzz surrounding this years Daytona 500 has to do with veteran Mark Martin. He has only raced part time the past two years, but is returning to the track full time this season. He qualified second in the time trials this weekend.

Martin Truex Jr. won the pole for the first race of the year. He races for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and won the pole with a top lap of 188.001. Martin qualified with a lap of 187.817. Others won spots in the race, but will not know their starting position until Thursday.

There have been some team changes for the upcoming season. Tony Stewart left Joe Gibbs Raccing after driving for the team for a decade. He has become the owner of his own team. Stewart had the tenth fastest qualifying time over the weekend.

Terry Lebonte, who has won the Daytona in the past, had the fastest time among all the drivers who have won previously at Daytona. Bill Elliot also qualified.
