NBA Betting Odds: Bulls Fill Coaching Vacancy With Thibodeau

The Chicago Bulls have been searching for a new coach since they relieved Vinnie Del Negro of his job after Chicago was ousted from the playoffs. Rumors immediately started to fly that Phil Jackson may be interested in a return to Chicago.

Those rumors can now be put to bed after reports surfaced Saturday of how Boston Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau has accepted an offer to become the next Bulls coach. The official announcement cannot come until after the NBA Finals.

The NBA does not have rules in place that would stop any team from announcing their coaching decision. With the Celtics in the finals, however, the league and the Bulls decided it would be best to put off the announcement until after the championship series. The NBA likes to keep the focus on the court during the finals.

In those finals, the Los Angeles Lakers came out swinging against Boston, delivering a tough performance in game one, and taking the series lead. On Sunday, the Celtics will have to answer with a win of their own if they do not want to head back home down two games.

Kobe Bryant was his usual aggressive self in game one, and he had plenty of help from his teammates. Pau Gasol, and Ron Artest both had big games, showing the Celtics that these were not the same soft Lakers that Boston faced two years ago in the finals.

As the Lakers watched Boston celebrate after game six in 2008, Bryant and his teammates decided that they would not be bullied on the court again. Last year, L.A. won a title, and a win over Boston this season would further cement Bryant's legacy of being one of the best players to ever step on the court.
