NBA Betting Odds: Cavaliers Emerging As Favorites To Win East
The Cleveland Cavaliers made a big splash this off season when they acquired Shaquille O'Neal from the Phoenix Suns. That was supposed to put the Cavaliers over the top in the Eastern Conference.
The first couple of months, it did not look as though the experiment was going to work out. Shaq looked uncomfortable in getting used to the flow of the offense, and Cleveland was sleepwalking through the schedule.
That has not been the case lately. Cleveland has been playing some of the best basketball in the league, and they have passed Boston for the top record in the East. LeBron James is still playing at an MVP level, but his teammates have risen to the occasion as well.
Over in the West, the Los Angeles Lakers still own the top record, but they have been slumping since losing Pau Gasol to injury for the second time this year. The Lakers have been miserable on the road of late, and Kobe Bryant left Tuesday's game with back spasms.
One team that was expected to be at the top of the West was San Antonio. After starting the season poorly, they too have caught fire. The Spurs beat the Lakers by double digits on Tuesday, and are now a serious threat to LA in the playoffs.
The new year has begun, and that means that the elite NBA teams will rise to the top. With each passing game, it appears one of those teams to be dealt with down the stretch will be the Cavaliers.
