NBA Betting Odds Depend On Next Two Weeks Of LeBron Mania
The Los Angeles Lakers won their second consecutive NBA title a couple of weeks ago, and they will likely be the betting favorites when sports books finalize their pre-season odds. That is about the only thing that is certain pertaining to the odds.
Free agency begins in less than a week and there are dozens of players that could be changing teams. One of those free agents happens to be a player many believe is the best in the league, LeBron James. No matter where James signs, the dominoes will begin to fall, and the championship betting odds will hang in the balance.
Odds makers still have Cleveland as the favorite to retain the services of James. Chicago, Miami, New Jersey, New York, and Los Angeles have also been invited to come to James and make presentations starting next weekend.
The process may take some time to sort out, but the prospects of a super-team with James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh is a possibility. Even should all three of those players land on the same team, the Lakers would likely be favored to win the title next season.
If James, Wade, and Bosh decide to all go to separate teams, then the odds would be much more cluttered at the top. The team that lands James, however, would likely still be one of the top two or three favored teams heading into next season.
The Cavaliers were betting favorites through most of the past two seasons. They squandered the best record in the league both years, and it was Kobe Bryant and not James who was holding the championship trophies at the end of each of those seasons.
Gamblers will need to be patient for just a couple of more weeks before they can start deciding which team to back next year, but there is a good chance that wherever "The King" lands, short betting odds will be sure to follow.
