NBA Betting Odds: Lakers Must Win At Home To Defend Title

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics both figured that by now they would be resting for a finals appearance. The two teams both held 2-0 series leads going into game three. Now, less than a week later, the two most recent NBA champions both look like their staggering to the finish.

Boston was once up 3-0 in their series, but last night Orlando won their second consecutive game, and sent the series back to Boston on Friday for game six. The Lakers lost both games in Phoenix, and have a pivotal game five tonight at the Staples Center.

L.A. was cruising early in the series, with their length being an obvious problem for the Suns. In game three, Suns Coach Alvin gentry went to a zone defense, and it has knocked the Lakers offense out of whack.

If Los Angeles is going to repeat as champions, they will need to win tonight. Heading back to Phoenix to play in an elimination game is the last scenario Kobe Bryant and his teammates want to be faced with after this evening's game.

Comforting for Lakers fans is that the team has been almost unbeatable at home in the playoffs the past two seasons. Lamar Odom plays much better at home, and the rest of the Lakers bench also played well at home in the first two games of the series.

Phoenix will attempt to keep the momentum they gained in their two home games. Their bench has played better in games three and four, but they will not have the home crowd to help with energy when the teams step on the court in L.A.
