The Los Angeles Lakers are the defending NBA champions and have been to two straight NBA Finals. Judging from that success, one would be led to believe that L.A. has had a killer instinct in their run over the past couple of seasons.
On the contrary, the Lakers have had a tough time closing out series' after taking early leads. This year alone, the Lakers held a 2-0 series lead over Oklahoma City before losing the next two games on the road. Los Angeles is looking to buck that trend tonight in Utah.
The Lakers again come in with a 2-0 series lead. The first two games it has been apparent that the Jazz do not have the big, physical presence needed to slow down the Lakers two big men, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. Now, however, the scene shifts to what should be a loud and boisterous home court advantage in Utah.
The Jazz have been playing without two of their big men, and it has hurt them so far in this series. In addition, Kobe Bryant appears to be healthier than he has looked in the past couple of months. If Utah is going to make this a series, they must win game three tonight.
The other Western Conference semi-finals match up has turned one-sided. Phoenix has used their speed and precision to take a commanding 3-0 lead against a San Antonio team that many analysts believed was playing the best basketball coming into this round.
If Los Angeles wins tonight, it will likely set up a meeting with the Suns in the conference finals. No NBA team has ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit to win the series, and that would be the task both Utah and San Antonio may face after this evening's game.
