NBA Championship Betting Should Pick Up After All-Star Weekend
In the NBA, it is widely known that the goal of the first half for championship caliber teams is staying healthy. The season is long and grueling, and health becomes the most important factor in a deep run through the playoffs.
This season, outside of a few small injuries, most of the teams at the top of the standings are heading down the backstretch with their health in order. Kobe Bryant is the most significant injury going into All-Star weekend, but most believe that some time off will heal what is ailing the reigning Finals MVP.
In the second half, teams start to play with more intensity as they work their way into championship form. This part of the season is also where gamblers begin to zero in on who they believe will win the title.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers went into the season as the favorites to meet in the finals. With much of the season complete, those two teams are on a collision course. The Lakers have a 5.5 game lead on their closest competitor for home court advantage in the West, and Cleveland has a seven game lead in the East.
The Cavaliers and Lakers may both add some depth to their teams before the trading deadline. Cleveland is looking for one more big man, and L.A. is seeking a sharp shooter from the outside, along with someone who can play defense against the league's top guards.
Outside of Cleveland and Los Angeles, Denver, Orlando, Boston, Atlanta, and San Antonio remain favorites of most analysts. Utah, Phoenix and Dallas are also teams that have shown flashes of brilliance and could be dangerous come playoff time.
