The NBA Finals has reached a point that many analysts believed it was headed. After six games, no champion has been determined and a game seven will be necessary between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics.

The Lakers forced game seven on Tuesday evening when they came out aggressive and blew out the Celtics. In the process, Boston lost something much more than the game. Kendrick Perkins was hurt in the first half, and did not return to the lineup.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Perkins has severely hurt his knee and will not be available for game seven on Thursday. The injury could not have come at a more important position for Boston, with the Lakers advantage being on the inside with Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.

Whatever confidence and momentum that Boston came to L.A. with was destroyed by halftime of game six. Los Angeles had a twenty point lead at the half, and seemed intent early on showing Boston that things would be different than in games four and five. Now, Boston must find a way to put game six in their rear-view mirror and convince themselves they can win one more game on the road.

Los Angeles will be the team playing with confidence come Thursday, and Kobe Bryant is now just one win away from capturing his fifth NBA title. If Bryant and his teammates play as they did in game six, it may not matter what Boston team shows up.

The Lakers were dominant on the boards, beat the Celtics to all loose balls, and even received contributions from Lamar Odom and Ron Artest, both of whom had been missing for much of the series. The Lakers bench also played much better, with Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar being major factors in the game six win.
