NBA Playoff Betting Begins With Lakers As The Favorites
The Cleveland Cavaliers held off the Los Angeles Lakers in a race for the NBA's best record that went down to the last week of the season. Even though the Cavs will have home court advantage if they meet in the finals, Los Angeles has still been made the betting favorites.
For much of the year the talk of the league was whether Kobe Bryant or LeBron James was the league MVP. Dewayne Wade made that discussion a three way battle after the all star break. As far as teams go, however, it was the Lakers and Cavaliers that have been widely considered the two best.
Los Angeles swept the season series from the Cavaliers, handing Cleveland one of only two home losses they had all year. The playoffs begin tomorrow, and the Lakers are -130 to win the championship. Cleveland is a strong second choice at -115.
The Orlando Magic have now moved into the third betting choice after Boston Celtics coach Doc rivers made comments indicating star player Kevin Garnett may not be back on the court this season. The Magic are +725, and the Celtics +750 to win it all.
The Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers, and Denver Nuggets are the next three choices at +1200, +1600, and +1800, respectively. San Antonio after losing Manu Ginobili for the playoffs, has dropped down to +2000.
Philadelphia, Miami, and Detroit are the three long shots in this years playoffs. All have odds of over 90-1. The Bulls are also considered a dark horse pick at +8000.
