NBA Playoff Betting Preview: Season Heads Towards Last Week
The NBA season is too long, according to many critics, but at this point of the season, the playoffs are all that are on the minds of fans across the US. Less than one week remains in the regular season, and that means that teams are preparing for a playoff run.
Part of that preparation for the top two teams in the league involves resting some of their key players. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers have both clinched the top seeds in their conferences, and are readying for a championship run.
The Cavaliers have been the top seed almost the entire years and they are the betting favorites to win the title. LeBron James is poised to repeat as the league MVP, but his stated goal is to win a championship.
The Lakers, meanwhile, have been limping to the finish line. They have not played well in the past few weeks, and injuries are starting to take a toll. Kobe Bryant, the Finals MVP last year, has not played the last two games, resting his ailing legs and his broken finger.
Los Angeles will have a tough task ahead of them on their way to a possible repeat. The Lakers have made deep runs into June the past couple of years, and all of those extra games may finally be catching up to a Los Angeles team that is getting old at some key positions.
In the last week of the season, Chicago and Toronto will battle for the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. The winner gets the unfortunate prize of having to face Cleveland in the first round.
Out West, Dallas, Denver, Utah, Phoenix, San Antonio, Portland and Oklahoma City will be jockeying for playoff position. Only a couple of games separate the second and seventh seeds heading into a crucial stretch of games to finish off the year.
