NBA Training Camps Open Next Week With Gamblers Picking Lakers

The last time fans saw an NBA game it ended with Kobe Bryant and his Lakers teammates winning a world championship. Now, several months later, the NBA is back with training camps opening up next week.

It seems like a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same. Gamblers have already weighed in on the upcoming season and the Lakers are once again the choice of odds makers to win the championship again this year.

Los Angeles did not have much turnover from the team that beat Orlando in five games for the title last year. Trevor Ariza is gone, but he was replaced with Ron Artest. While Ariza brought many intangibles to the Lakers title run, many experts believe this years team will be even better with Artest.

Phil Jackson retuns on the sidelines, and Los Angeles still has the strongest closer in the game in Bryant. Number 24 now has his own title and is just one title short of Magic Johnson and two titles short of Michael Jordan.

The rest of the league is not prepared to just roll over for the Lakers. The Cleveland Cavaliers have loaded up by acquiring one of the best centers in history in Saquille O'Neal, and the Magic have added Vince Carter. In the West, San Antonio looks to be healthy for the first time in years.

April is a long way off, but NBA fever has already started. It may not get much attention with the NFL season underway and the MLB playoffs on the horizon, but many fans will be glad to hear the sound of the bouncing ball hitting the court for the first time next week.
