NBA Western Conference Dominating Early Season

The Orlando Magic is off to a quick start in the East with a 13-4 record. By the looks of things right now, there may not be a team in the East capable of challenging them for the conferences best record.

It may be a little premature to suggest, but when you look at the teams that are supposed to compete, it becomes more realistic.

The defending champion Heat are 7-9 and struggling to find any sense of consistency, plus they are without Shaquille O'Neal for a few more weeks.

The Chicago Bulls looked to have a strong team, but they are also 7-9 and have gotten nothing from their key offseason acquisition Ben Wallace.

Detroit and Cleveland are both hanging in there at 11-6 and 10-7 but both seem to be inconsistent.

Over in the West is where the power of the NBA resides. There are 10 teams at .500 or better including San Antonio at 12-5, Houston 11-5, Denver 10-5, and Phoenix 9-6, and none of those teams are even leading their divisions.

Dallas is leading their division as expected with a 12-4 record, and that's after losing their first four games.

The other two division leaders are somewhat of a surprise with Utah leading the Northwest with a 14-4 record, the best in the NBA right now.

The Lakers lead the West with an 11-5 record and are playing consistent even with Kobe Bryant coming off knee surgery.
