NBC Gambling On Olympics To Carry Their Television Programming

There are only a few sporting events in the world that will command a television audience. The Super Bowl and the World Cup are two examples of how sports can dominate the television ratings.

NBC is gambling that the Olympics can generate those kind of ratings as well. The television company has decided to air hour upon hour of coverage from the Beijing Summer Olympics.

The fact that the Olympics are taking place on the other side of the world is a disadvantage right off the bat for NBC. Most of the live events will be taking place at awkward hours for Americans to be watching television.

Nonetheless, the Olympics do have some intriguing stories that people are following. Mark Phelps is attempting to become the all time gold medal winner in the pool. He already has captured his first gold in the first weekend of the competition.

The United States basketball team is another of the top stories overseas. They drew record crowds both live and on television for their opening round match up with China.

The American team for the first time since the original Dream Team looks as though they are hungry to bring the United States back to the top of the basketball food chain.

In addition to those stories there are hundreds more at the Olympics, and NBC looks intent on covering all of them, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the games.
