Nevada Sportsbooks Told No More Gambling On Triple A Team
It is true that Major League Baseball is not wagered on as often as other sports such as the NFL or NBA. Sportsbooks in Nevada, however, thought they had a good money maker with the Reno Aces.
The Aces are a Triple A affiliate to a Major league team, and sportsbooks had started to take bets on their games. They were actually getting a decent amount of action until regulators forced them to stop taking the bets.
Major League Baseball requested back in 1985 that sportsbooks not be allowed to take bets on any Nevada based baseball teams. There was a regulation put in place because of that request, and that is why the sportsbooks were forced to stop the gambling on the Aces.
"People liked it. There was a decent amount of wagering on it, and it would have been interesting to see where it went," said Nick Bogdanovich, Race and Sports Director for Club Cal Neva, told the Reno Gazette-Journal, "We had a brand new product and people were taking to it. The Aces generated more business than I thought they would.
Of course, it was Bogdanovich who was responsible for setting betting lines for the games. Not the easiest of tasks for anyone that is not in tune with minor league baseball. The constant changes to the Triple A rosters makes it hard to keep track of which teams are good and which are bad.
Still, any action that sportsbooks could get these days would be a bonus. The economy has caused gambling revenue to decline in Nevada, and the minor league betting could only help.
