New BCS Rankings Has Alabama Crimson Tide In The Number One Spot
The Alabama Crimson Tide have had to watch many of the other undefeated teams get a chance at being number one in the country. Now, it is the Tides turn after the new BCS standings were released on Sunday.
Alabama became the beneficiary of a Texas Longhorn loss to Texas Tech on Saturday night. The Longhorns were in the last leg of a brutal stretch of games, and simply did not have enough juice to finish the stretch undefeated.
Penn State was in position to move into title position at number two, but that is not how it ended up this week. The Red Raiders jumped the Nittany Lions and are now number two in the BCS.
Texas was rewarded for their tough string of games by remaining in the top five despite their loss. They are now the number four team and are still in a position to challenge for a title game spot.
The Florida Gators round out the top five after they handled Georgia easily in Jacksonville this past weekend. The Gators had hoped to move higher than five, but they still will get their shot at Alabama in the SEC championship game.
Oklahoma routed Nebraska on Saturday night, but that only landed them the number six spot in the BCS. USC pitched another shutout and they now stand at number seven.
The final three spots in the top ten are kind of surprising. Utah moves up to number eight, Oklahoma State goes to number nine. Boise State, who has crashed the BCS party before, is poised to do so again at number ten.
