New Orleans Hornets Gambling On Chris Paul With New Contract

The free agent signing period is in full swing, and the New Orleans Hornets have already inked a deal. They did not sign a free agent, however, they signed a player that was already under contract with them.

Chris Paul led the Hornets all the way to the conference semi-finals last season. They were up three games to two before falling at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs.

Now, the Hornets are gambling on Paul to lead them to an NBA title. He is one of the brightest young stars in a league that is full of talent.

Many believe that Paul should have won the NBA MVP award. He probably would have had his Hornets held on to the best record in the Western Conference. They did not, however, as they were caught in the season's final week by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Paul does not have much time to enjoy his new contract with the Hornets. He is on the Team USA basketball team that will be playing for a gold medal in the Olympics.

The contract that Paul signed is a four year extension on his current deal. It is worth $68 million, and ensures that he will be playing basketball in New Orleans until at least 2012 barring a trade.

Paul was behind Kobe Bryant the most dominating player in the league this past season. He was explosive when he needed to be and a master facilitator when needed. The Hornets are hoping he continues his development and becomes a star for years to come.
