NFL Betting Odds Already Out For First Preseason Games
The NFL preseason is still over two weeks from the first game, and training camps for teams have not even started yet. Sports books, however, are in a hurry to get the season underway. It is bread and butter time for these sports books, and the sooner the money starts rolling in, the better.
That is perhaps why there are already betting lines on the first week of preseason games. Some teams do not even know who their starting quarterback will be, how long starters will play, or who will be on their rosters, but sports books are taking a gamble with point spreads.
Although the lines are up, they are about as vanilla as point spreads will ever be. Of the seventeen games that will be played between August 9th and August 17th, thirteen of the games have spreads between two and four points. There is one pick, one game with a spread of 1.5, and the other two games are off the board.
"The preseason point spreads will not change much in the first couple of weeks," said sports fan Barry Valdez, "it is basically pick the team you want to root for, and bet on them. There really is no method to preseason NFL gambling."
The preseason kicks off as it usually does, with the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio on August 9th. The game will feature the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills. Tennessee is favored by three points and the total is low at thirty-one.
The highlight of the first week of the preseason will take place in Pittsburgh. The defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers will begin their quest to repeat against the team that they beat in the Super Bowl, the Arizona Cardinals. The Steelers are favored by three points.
