NFL Betting Odds: Cowboys And Lions On Thanksgiving, Ho-Hum
The NFL prides itself on making bold moves that will forever change the way sports is watched by fans in the US. Why then, has the league been resistant to changing their Thanksgiving Day schedule.
The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions have been constants on Thanksgiving Day, but in recent years both teams have experienced blowouts on Turkey Day. Today, both teams will once again host Thanksgiving Day games, even though the Cowboys are struggling again and the Lions are still a mess.
Thanksgiving has become a day when families get together and do two things. They eat until they can no longer move, and they watch football. It is unknown, however, why these families are still subjected to the same two teams every year.
The NFL was smart enough to place a Thanksgiving night game on the schedule for gamblers, but why have they not yet realized that people would rather see Peyton Manning face off with Tom Brady than any Oakland quarterback playing against the Dallas Cowboys.
The NFL has no explanation for this other than the fact that it is tradition. The same thing that the NFL has over Major League Baseball is hurting them on this day.
MLB id afraid to change anything at the risk of hurting the sanctity of the game. Meanwhile, the NFL has rocked tradition may times in hopes of expanding their brand.
Today, football fans will again endure the Cowboys and the Lions, and they will do so with a smile on their face. That does not mean, however, that it is what these fans want to see. The sooner the NFL realizes that, the better.
