NFL Betting Odds: Cowboys Looking To Rebound From Giants Loss
The Dallas Cowboys script did not go according to plan last week. They opened up owner Jerry Jones' new stadium palace with a prime time game against the hated Giants. At the end of that game, the Cowboys were hanging their heads after losing.
Now, Dallas gets a second consecutive prime time game at home tonight when they face the Carolina Panthers. If there is one thing that prideful owners like Jones do not tolerate, it is being embarrassed in front of the entire nation.
That is the fate the Cowboys will try to avoid tonight. Odds makers believe the general public feels that the Cowboys will right the ship tonight. Dallas is an 8.5 point betting favorite in the game. The total for the game is 48.
The high total shows just how far these teams have fallen. The Panthers and Cowboys had two of the best defenses in the league last year, but both have been torched in the early part of the 2009 season.
Carolina also has offensive problems. Jake Delhomme seems to have lost all of his confidence after his horrendous performance in the playoffs last year against Arizona. The fact that he has not recovered shows where the Panthers team in general may be emotionally.
The Panthers had the best record in the NFC last year and were heavy favorites against Arizona in the Divisional playoff game. The Cardinals shredded the Panthers defense, however, and dismantled a heralded Panthers offense.
Tonight, one of these teams will head back towards respectability while the other will fall deeper into the abyss. It is anybodies guess as to whether it is the Cowboys or Panthers that survive.
