NFL Betting Odds: Defending Champion Steelers Favored At Home
The Pittsburgh Steelers were in this same position just two short years ago. They were coming off of a Super Bowl win and preparing to defend their title while opening the season at home on a Thursday night against Miami. Tonight, they will relive that feeling when they kick off the NFL season against Tennessee.
For gamblers, it has been a long off season. All of the talk now comes to an end and gamblers are once again allowed to put their money where their mouth is. The Steelers are 6.5 point favorites on a night when they will receive their Super Bowl rings.
The atmosphere in Pittsburgh should be euphoric as the Terrible Towels will be waving in mass. Add to that the fact that several of these Titans stomped on the Towel last year in Tennessee, and the NFL should have quite an entertaining game on their hands in the opener.
The Steelers have been picked by many to repeat as champions this season. They have not lost much from their championship team of a year ago, and they actually may still be improving under coach Mike Tomlin.
Tennessee, on the other hand, lost their top defensive force in Albert Haynesworth. They will be trying to erase the memory of having the AFC's best regular season record last year only to choke away home field advantage in a Divisional round loss to Baltimore.
The odds makers appear to believe that the Steelers will ride emotion to a win in week one, but the Titans will certainly be ready to play, they always are under Jeff Fisher. The total for the game has been set at 35.5, suggesting that it may be a defense dominated game.
