NFL Betting Odds: Detroit Lions Offense Ready To Fly
The Detroit Lions have been the laughingstock of the NFL for many seasons, going back to when Detroit lost every game they played a few seasons ago. Even before that history-making season, the Lions rarely were considered a threat to win their division, much less a conference championship.
This year, however, the Lions are starting to get some attention from NFL analysts for the right reasons. The Lions have spent the past two drafts building what now appears to be one of the best defensive lines in the league, but it is the offense that makes many believe that Detroit could be a playoff team as soon as this season.
Matt Stafford was just starting to come into his own when he was injured last season and missed the rest of the season. After an off season filled with rehab, Stafford is again healthy and most analysts predict he will put up big numbers. The biggest thing that Stafford and the offense has going for them is All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
The odds makers have taken note of Detroit's new found respect from the betting public. The Lions are only one point underdogs on the road against Tampa tomorrow. The Buccaneers also have a young quarterback trying to make a statement in that game in Josh Freeman. If Freeman can hook up with Mike Williams, it could end up being a shootout in Florida.
Another game of interest to gamblers tomorrow will be in St. Louis. Sam Bradford will look to improve on what many believed was a successful rookie season, and he will be handing the ball early and often to running back Steven Jackson. Mike Sims-Walker gives Bradford a legitimate number one receiver to throw to.
Facing the Rams will be the revamped Philadelphia Eagles. The equivalent to the Miami Heat in basketball, Philly opened the bank vault this summer and signed some of the top free agents on the market. The Eagles will be relying offensively on the further maturation of Michael Vick and wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The Eagles are 4.5 point favorites on the road.
