NFL Betting Odds: Jets And Dolphins Renew Old Rivalry
Players for both the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins have been trading verbal blasts throughout the off season. The rivalry between the two teams runs deep, and tonight the players will get to settle their differences on the field.
For several years, the rivalry, once one of the hottest in football, had died down because of poor teams on the field. The lack of playoff intensity had taken the bite out of the match ups. Now, however, with both teams again relevant, the war of words has heated up.
The Dolphins won the AFC East last year thanks in part to a late season meltdown by the Jets. The meltdown culminated with a loss to Miami that would have sent the Jets to the playoffs. Tonight, the teams meet in what is somewhat of a crossroads game.
The Dolphins have started defense of their division title by losing three of their first four games. They are in what some consider to be a must win game tonight. A loss would drop the Dolphins to 1-4, and put them three games behind New York.
The Jets were the darlings of the NFL until a loss last week to New Orleans brought expectations back into focus. Even with that loss, the Jets could open up a two game lead on New England in the AFC east with a win tonight.
The betting line is similar to those of past Jets-Dolphins games. New York is favored by a field goal, even though they are on the road in Miami. The total of thirty-six would suggest another defensive struggle. The game will be shown nationally as part of ESPN's Monday Night Football coverage.
