NFL Betting Odds Low Heading Towards Last Week Of Preseason
Gamblers received their toughest odds of the preseason during week three, with sports books creating odds that are similar to what gamblers will see when the regular season starts. With only one week left in the preseason, the betting odds have again dropped for the final games.
The third game is the time when the starters play deepest into the game. Most teams play their starters at least for a half in the third preseason game, and some coaches even like to play their core units well into the third quarter. That created betting lines in some games that jumped to over a touchdown.
The final game, however, will have few starters playing longer than one series. The theory is that the players have come this far in camp without injury, so there is no reason to risk an injury that could change the outlook of the team going into the regular season.
Two games this week have odds of more than six points, the New Orleans, Tennessee match up, and the Cincinnati, Indianapolis game. The Bengals are favored by 6.5 over the Colts, who will likely be playing without Peyton Manning. In Tennessee, the Titans are 7.5 point favorites over the defending Super Bowl champions.
The majority of the games will be played on Thursday, giving teams a full week and a half to get ready for their openers the following Sunday. The Thursday games have lines that are sitting somewhere between one and four, with a few exceptions. These games will end what has been a grueling camp for some teams.
The regular season lines have also been produced already by odds makers. The first game lines could change drastically if a key player in injured this weekend. Of all of the regular season openers, the New York Giants are the biggest favorites, laying seven points against the Carolina Panthers.
