NFL Betting Odds: Peppers, Westbrook, Tomlinson Look For New Teams
The Super Bowl marks the end of the season for the NFL, but it is sometimes what happens in the following weeks that could shape the betting odds for the following season. That is the case this year with some of the players that have been released by their teams.
LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook were considered by many to be the two best running backs in the NFL just a few seasons ago. Now, both have been released by their teams, and are hoping that another team will take a chance on them.
Tomlinson has already been linked to the Bears, Saints, and Steelers. Whether any of those teams have serious interest, or whether it is speculation, will be determined in the coming months. Tomlinson is no longer the elite back he once was, but could be an important goal line and third down back for a contending team.
Westbrook may have a little tougher time finding a job. He has a history of concussions, and teams have not seem him at his best for quite some time. He will work during the off season to prove that he can stay healthy for a full season.
One of the biggest names to be released this week is Julius Peppers. The Carolina defensive star is considered to still be in his prime, and could have a major impact wherever he lands next year. Peppers has been flirting with leaving Carolina for several seasons, and now he will get his wish to test free agency.
Other big names are still expected to be dropped by their teams. Middle linebacker Gary Brackett helped lead the Indianapolis Colts to the Super Bowl, but there is now speculation that the Colts will not place the franchise tag on Brackett. Indianapolis still wants Brackett back, and hopes to sign him to a contract before the Colts have to make the franchise tag decision.
