NFL Betting Odds: Steelers In Denver To Face Broncos Tonight

The Pittsburgh Steelers are only two years removed from being Super Bowl champions. At the end of that season, the lasting memory was of Santonio Holmes and Ben Roethlisberger hooking up in what has become one of the greatest passes and catches in Super Bowl history.

That was then, this is now. Holmes was shipped to New York in the off season after a series of transgressions, and Roethlisberger will spend at least the first four games of this season watching from the bench. Roethlisberger is serving at least a four game suspension for violating the league's conduct policy.

Pittsburgh is led by Mike Tomlin, and the Steelers coach, like Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher before him, makes no excuses for mediocrity. The loss of Holmes and Roethlisberger will not be a reason for the Steelers to throw in the towel. If anything, Tomlin will demand more of his players that do take the field on opening day.

Many of those players will be on the field in Denver tonight when the Steelers face the Broncos in their third preseason game. It is unknown how long Roethlisberger will play in tonight's game. Tomlin has not indicated whether Byron Leftwich or Dennis Dixon will get the nod at quarterback while Roethlisberger is out, but many analysts believe it will be Leftwich.

On the defensive side of the ball, Pittsburgh will be welcoming back Aaron Smith and Troy Polamalu. The safety has become the heart and soul of the secondary, while Smith has been the same for Pittsburgh's front seven for over a decade.

Denver has their own issues to deal with. Running back has suddenly become a problem area after injury's early in the pre-season. The Denver defense will also have to find a way to replace all-everything linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who was lost for the season to injury.

Denver is the betting favorite tonight, with the Steelers being two point underdogs. The total for the game is 37.5.
