NFL Betting Odds: Three Point Spreads The Norm In Week One
The NFL preseason has become more of a test in survival than anything else these days. Teams are just trying to get through without having crushing injuries that could devastate their title hopes.
The defending champion New York Giants are one of the teams that were unlucky and lost one of their top defensive players for the year. They managed to still win their first game Thursday night against the Washington Redskins.
Now, in several hours the rest of the league will begin their quest for a championship. With the start of the regular season comes the start of gambling, and that means NFL betting odds.
This season will begin much like many others, with teams favored by a field goal over their opponents. There are five games this weekend with point spreads of three, and another six with lines of less than a touchdown.
This is typical of early season NFL. Odds makers are unsure what certain teams will bring to the table, therefore the lines are neutral for the first few weeks. Once sports books get a feel for the teams, the lines become much harder to beat.
"I love betting early in the year, that is when I do my best. Gambling is usually a coin flip, and our best odds are before the bookies know what is going on," said Dale Tremblet, an occasional football bettor.
The New England Patriots have become the exception to many gambling rules over the past few years, and this year is no different. The Patriots have the highest betting line on the board. They are favored by fifteen over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Most of the games will be played today, with two games slated for Monday night.
