NFL Betting Preview: Chargers An Underdog Tonight Despite Record
The San Diego Chargers have had a trend that began a couple of years ago, one in which they start the season struggling, then catch fire in time to save their season heading into the playoffs. This year, San Diego has been dominant for the better part of the season.
That, however, has not gained them much respect in the eyes of odds makers. The Chargers have won nine straight games, but head into tonight's Christmas match up with the 7-7 Tennessee Titans as underdogs.
It is not that Tennessee is a slouch. They have won seven of their last eight games after starting the season 0-6, but they still have not been as consistent as the Chargers. Tennessee will be fighting for their playoff lives tonight.
The Titans chances of making the playoffs are slim since they have a slew of competition and they do not hold tiebreakers over many of these teams. After an 0-6 start, however, Tennessee will take pride in just finishing the season strong and seeing where the cards fall.
The Titans resurgence came after they inserted Vince Young back into the starting quarterback position. Young has led an offense that includes Chris Johnson, their running back that is challenging Eric Dickerson's all-time rushing mark for a single season.
San Diego is led by Phillip Rivers, and MVP candidate that has flown under the radar despite leading his team to an 11-3 record. With one in their final two games, the Chargers would lock up the number two seed in the AFC playoffs. That would give them a first round bye.
