NFL Betting Preview: Home Teams All Favored This Week
The NFL wild card weekend has come and gone and four teams have emerged as legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Odds makers, however, have placed long odds on any of the four teams advancing past the divisional round this weekend.
The Dallas Cowboys have been given the best chance at success by odds makers when they travel to face Minnesota on Sunday. Dallas is only a three point underdog on the road, easily the lowest odds of any of the four challengers.
Arizona played in the most exciting game this past week, against Green Bay. They won that game in overtime at home, but now must go to number one seed New Orleans on Saturday. The saints are favored by seven points despite finishing the season with three straight losses.
The other game Saturday will feature the top seed in the AFC, the Indianapolis Colts. Like the Saints, the Colts come into the game on a losing streak. They will be hosting a Baltimore Ravens team that dismantled New England on the road last week. The Colts are favored by seven points.
The last game of the weekend will feature what many analysts believe is the best team in football, the San Diego Chargers. San Diego will host the New York Jets, whose coach Rex Ryan has proclaimed as the Super Bowl favorites. New York is a nine point underdog.
Sports books place odds based on what they feel public opinion of the games are, and many times the public is wrong. There is a strong likelihood that at least one of the visiting teams will pull an upset, but it is up to gamblers to figure out which team, or teams, that will be.
