The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers were considered by odds makers to be two of the favorites to win the NFC this season. With just two games left, the teams are facing the prospects of not even making the playoffs. Today they meet in what is basically a must-win game for both teams.
A majority of analysts had the Packers battling the Minnesota Vikings for supremacy in the NFC North this season. It turns out that neither will win the division, with the surprising Bears locking up the division title last Monday night in Minnesota. The Vikings have long been ousted from playoff contention, and the Packers are holding on by a thread.
The winner of the Packers, Giants game today will hold the tiebreaker over the other, so the loser would basically be eliminated. The Packers are three point betting favorites in the game. The Giants must win and hope the Eagles lose or their NFC East hopes will be dashed.
Other teams will be fighting for their playoff lives as well this afternoon. Indianapolis, despite their struggles, has control of their own destiny in the AFC South. The Colts are on the road in Oakland, and are three point favorites. Jacksonville can still win the division, but must beat Washington today at home.
Baltimore watched Pittsburgh win Thursday, making their chances of winning the AFC North slim. The Ravens can still wrap up a wild card spot in the playoffs if they can win at Cleveland today and at home against Cincinnati next week. The Ravens are favored by four against Cleveland.
New York can wrap up their second playoff berth in as many seasons with a win in Chicago. The Bears have clinched a playoff spot, but are still playing for a first round bye. Atlanta has wrapped up the number one seed in the NFC, with New England holding that position in the AFC.
