NFL Betting Slows In Last Week Of The Preseason
Week three in the preseason is where the starters on each team get the most work. With gamblers knowing that, the week also tends to be a heavy betting week as far as the preseason goes.
The following week, which is this upcoming weekend, the gambling tends to slow down. Bettors are getting ready for the regular season and saving money for the games that count.
Fantasy football leagues have also put a damper on betting in the final week of the preseason. Many people are busy with drafts and do not have time to watch the games. Money that would normally be spent gambling is also going to fees for these fantasy leagues.
The starters are another reason that betting is slowed in the final week. Most teams do not play their starters long, if they even play them at all. The Jets are considering holding Brett Favre out of their game, and several other teams might do the same with their stars.
Week one of the regular season gets under way in just over a week. The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants will play the Washington Redskins a week from Thursday.
At that time, gamblers will be ready. The first couple of weeks are traditionally good ones for bettors. The sports books are still getting to know the teams, and that makes the betting lines more of a guess than a few weeks in to the season.
