NFL Gambling Moves To Thursdays Starting With Broncos And Browns
The Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos were two of the teams that received much attention before the season started. They both were picked by many experts to be playoff contenders.
Denver is a playoff contender only thanks to the poor division they play in, and Cleveland has been one of the most disappointing teams in the league so far this year.
Tonight, the NFL will showcase the two teams on the first of their Thursday night games on the NFL Network. Cleveland is the gambling favorite in the game. They are favored by three over the Broncos. The total for the game is 46.5.
The NFL claims whenever asked that they do not promote gambling on their sport, yet they have expanded greatly from just having their games on Sunday afternoons. First, it was the Sunday night game, now it has moved to Thursdays.
The NFL gets ratings for these games, but these ratings do not come from fans who care about the Broncos and Browns. The ratings come from fans that have money riding on the game. At least that is the opinion of Sherman Loyetter.
"The NFL can say what they want about these games being for entertainment. The only entertainment value that has been proven is the one that connects gamblers with watching the games on Thursday nights," said Loyetter, a manager at a popular sports book.
