NFL Gambling Odds: Preseason Week Three, Starters In Control

The NFL preseason is grueling for odds makers. They have no idea who will be playing and how long they are going to play. Without that basic knowledge it is almost a coin flip for gamblers as well as the sports books.

That all change slightly, however, in week three. This is the week where starters play the longest of any preseason game. Most teams will play their starters at least a half in this game and some will even play into the third quarter.

That fact can be reflected in the odds for these week three games. While the first two weeks of games had odds of three points or less for most games, this week is different.

The first game that will be played this week is on Thursday night and features the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears. The Bears are at home and are favored to win by five points.

On Friday there are four games, and three of them have point spreads where the favored team is giving more than three points. Dallas is actually giving six to Houston.

The other thing way to know that it is week three is the totals on the games. While they were in the low thirties for the first couple of weeks, they have crept up towards the forties for week three.

For anyone looking to get a feel for what their teams will look like this year, this is the week to pay attention, but don't blink, because in week four it is back to the backups.
