NFL Gambling On Draft To Steal The Sports Spotlight Today

The NFL has one agenda when it comes to sports in the US, they want to dominate the market. They do not care who they offend on their way to the top, they simply want to be the king of American sports.

That is evidenced today when the NFL draft takes place starting at 4:00 PM. The NFL is gambling that the draft will steal the spotlight away from the other major sporting events of the day.

The NBA is in the middle of their first round playoff series' and they have three games that will be taking place at the same time as the NFL draft today. It will be a ratings battle between TNT, which will run two of the NBA games, and ESPN, which has been touting their draft coverage for what seems like months.

Major League Baseball is also battling for viewers this afternoon. They have possibly their best counter to the NBA playoffs and NFL's draft. FOX will be airing a game in the storied rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees at the same time the draft is starting.

Other news out of the NFL has Commissioner Roger Goodell putting together a proposal that would expand the regular season at least one, and possibly two, games. As part of the proposal, the Super Bowl may be moved back into the middle of February.

The NFL draft has lost some of its luster over the past few years with the suspense gone as to who will be the first pick. Matthew Stafford has followed some other recent number one picks by already agreeing to contract terms with the Detroit Lions, the team that holds the number one pick.
