NFL Gambling Pre-Game Shows Becoming Popular In America
The NFL likes to paint a picture of themselves as an anti-gambling league. Nothing could be further from the truth, and a wave of new pre-game shows is just one example of how gambling and the NFL go hand in hand.
Many networks have made the move to pre-game shows that feature NFL handicappers. These handicappers claim to have the winning picks for all sports gamblers. Follow their picks and you will make money gambling, that is their promise.
As phony as it is, millions of Americans follow these handicappers on a daily basis. Las Vegas has hundreds of these handicappers making millions of dollars from people who swear by their picks.
The NFL claims to be against gambling. They recently opposed a Bill by Barney Frank that would help clarify the online gambling laws in the United States. They do nothing, however, about these pre-game shows featuring handicappers that are telling people how to bet on NFL games.
The reason? Greed. The NFL makes money the more they are promoted. These pre-game shows bring huge ratings, so therefore the league has to turn the other way and pretend these shows don't exist.
A league that claims to be completely against gambling puts games on in prime time on Thursday's and Saturday's late in the year. The ratings for these games are astronomical, and it is not because of who is playing.
The reason people stay tuned in to a blowout on Monday night is not to see backups score touchdowns. It is to see whether the underdog can score late and cover a point spread. The NFL knows this, although they play dumb when asked questions regarding gambling.
The NFL prides itself on being an example and a leader for other sports. The only thing these pre-game gambling shows are leading is people down the path of problem gambling.
