The NFL has ruffled many feathers of its supporters by putting regular season games on their NFL Network. A large percentage of fans do not receive that station with their cable packages.

The NFL has stood firm on the idea that cable companies should offer the Network with their basic cable packages. Cable companies contend that prices for their package would increase too much for customers by carrying the station in regular package.

Today, the NFL has given in on its stance, if only for one week. The Patriots-Giants game is scheduled for Saturday night on the NFL Network. With the Pats going for a perfect regular season, the NFL has decided to broadcast the game on both CBS and NBC. It will be the first time ever that the same game will be broadcast on three different networks.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans. What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever," said Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement.

The truth of the matter is that the NFL can spin it whatever way they want, but the NFL Network was designed so that the league can get richer at the expense of its fans. The station is set up to force fans to buy a product that should be offered for free by the league.

The cable companies are the fall guys for the NFL, but what the NFL does not tell consumers is the amount of money it costs cable companies to carry the Network. The decision was made to do the right thing and let all fans see the Patriots shot at history. It was done, however, in spite of the NFL, not because of the league, as they might lead fans to believe.
