NFL Has Five Undefeated Teams Including Upstart Steelers, Packers
The cobwebs are officially gone after this week in the NFL. Teams that used the rusty excuse after the first two weeks no longer can use that as a reason for their poor play.
A handful of teams, however, need no excuses as they have won their first three games and are among the only five undefeated teams in the league.
The New England Patriots were many experts pick to win the Super Bowl this season, and so far, the Pats have not given any indication that those experts were wrong. new England scored 38 points again on Sunday and won in the same impressive rout fashion that they did in the first two games.
The Colts are another team that the experts liked, and after a divisional showdown with formerly undefeated Houston ended up in a Colts victory, they appear ready to defend their title from last year.
Dallas, which was a playoff team last year, has shown the ability to put points up in a hurry in the second half of games, and did so again Sunday night on the road against defending NFC champions Chicago.
The other two undefeated teams are a bit of a surprise. The Steelers did not make the playoffs last year and after losing their long time coach Bill Cowher, it was not known what new coach Mike Timlin would receive out of this group. So far, the Steelers have been dominant on defense and efficient on offense in their perfect 3-0 start.
Green Bay was the hottest team at the end of last year, but nobody expected that to carry over into this season. Nobody except themselves, anyway. All the Packers have done is beat two playoff teams in Philly and San Diego to start the season, and sit alone in first place in their division at 3-0.
The race is on to see if any of these teams can endure a full season and post a perfect record, something only the Miami Dolphins have done, and although its early, there is still only five teams left that can lay claim to a perfect record through three games.
