NFL Hates Gambling So Much, There Are Now Three Thanksgiving Day Games
The NFL is like your favorite politician that has all the answers when discussing important issues. They say all the right things to make it sound like they are correct in their convictions.
Thanksgiving is a day when most Americans get together with family and give thanks for everything good that is in their lives. It is also a day of overeating and football. For gamblers, which make up most of the NFL's fan base, Thanksgiving got a little bit better a couple of years ago.
The NFL, who, as a league, believes they are fooling people into believing the league looks down on gambling on their sport, has added a third game to their traditional Thanksgiving day schedule. No longer is the day reserved for the Lions and Cowboys.
The financial side of the game said that adding a third game would be beneficial to the league. so they did it. This year, they get themselves a tremendous third game in Arizona against Philadelphia.
The Eagles have quarterback issues and the Cardinals are in first place because nobody else in the division can get out of their own way. Yet, the ratings will be strong for this telecast. Why? Gambling.
There is nothing gamblers would rather do after spending all afternoon with their in-laws then place a bet on an NFL game and get away from their families to go watch the game. It is a ratings slam dunk.
The NFL will say that the ratings are up because their sport has become the premier one in America. The only problem with that line of thinking is that they fail to mention that it is that popular because of gambling.
Gamblers drive the sport of football. The reason football has become the top watched sport in America is because people have become more comfortable with being open about their gambling.
Baseball is a sport of passion. It is America's pastime, and it draws fans on the basis of hope. Football is a sport driven by money. Endorsement deals, television contracts, and money that can be won in an afternoon by gamblers.
Hockey did not make it in this country because gamblers did not take to the game. It is the same reason soccer is having a hard time getting off the ground. NASCAR is thriving because everybody in the field on a given race day has at least four to one odds.
Tonight, the Eagles will face the Cardinals in a game that has little meaning to anyone outside of Philadelphia and Arizona. Unless, of course, you are one of the millions of people that have a bet riding on the game.
