NFL Power Rankings: New York Giants Move Into The Top Spot
The New York Giants had the pleasure on Sunday night of traveling to the new Dallas Cowboys cathedral. Once there, the Giants ripped the hearts out of Cowboy fans worldwide and, in turn, moved into the number one spot in this week's power rankings.
New Orleans is another team that took great strides in week two. They dismantled a strong Eagles defense and moved up to number two. Drew Brees looks like an early season MVP candidate, but at some point the Saints will have to find a defense if they are going to stay near the top of the rankings.
In the three spot is Atlanta. The Falcons won again on Sunday and it is becoming clear that last year was no fluke. The Falcons again appear to be one of the team's to beat in the NFC and quarterback Matt Ryan is only going to get better.
Baltimore and Indianapolis round out the top five. The Ravens went on the road to beat San Diego and the Colts did the same in Miami on Monday night. Baltimore is led by their defense and an improving offense and Indy is still led by Peyton Manning.
A pair of NFC teams are in the six and seven spots. Minnesota and Brett Favre are rolling as expected, but San Francisco is also undefeated. The 49ers beat a Seattle team Sunday that many believed would be the best in the NFC. That moves San Francisco into the top ten for the first time this year.
Pittsburgh drops all the way to number eight after losing on the road at Chicago. The Bears played inspired while the Steelers lost thanks to two missed field goals by normally reliable Jeff Reed.
The New York Jets move into the number nine spot with a win over New England this past weekend. Normally, a win over the Patriots would vault a team higher, but the jury is out on how good New England really is this year.
San Diego had a hard fought game with Baltimore and we are not yet ready to throw them to the curb. The Chargers still are one of the most talented teams in the NFL, and we fully expect them to recover from their first loss this week.
