NFL Power Rankings: Steelers And Patriots Moving Toward The Top
The New Orleans Saints had their showdown with last week's number one team in our power rankings, the New York Giants, and the Saints won in impressive fashion. That catapulted New Orleans to the number one spot in our rankings this week.
Minnesota was again solid as they held off a furious late rally from Baltimore to improve to 6-0. The Vikings are now the number two team in the rankings and they are preparing for what should be a possible Super Bowl preview against Pittsburgh this weekend.
The Steelers are working their way back to the top of the rankings after three straight wins. New England had the most balanced win of the week, putting up fifty-nine points and giving up zero against the lowly Tennessee Titans. The Patriots are number six and the Steelers seven this week.
Indianapolis falls to the number three spot because of a bye. Denver, with their road win in San Diego last night, move all the way to number four this week. The Broncos are undefeated at a time when many experts predicted they may still be looking for their first win.
The Giants drop only to number five after their first loss of the year. New York still appears to be one of the teams that will battle to win the NFC this year, and they will look to rebound this week from a disappointing loss to New Orleans.
The top ten is rounded out by two NFC teams and one AFC team. Atlanta beat a solid Bears team Sunday night to run their record to 4-1, that gains them the number eight spot in the rankings. Arizona beat down the Seahawks, moving them into the top ten at number nine. Cincinnati's loss against Houston drops the Bengals to number ten.
